Last night was the premier of Gavin Strange’s BÖIKZMÖIND film on fixed-gear cycling in Bristol. There was a massive turnout—people from all over the country out watching the film on BBC’s outdoor big screen in Millenium Square at @Bristol on the waterfront.

London’s Foffa Bikes has been running their online Mix Your Fix bike configurator. This is not a new idea, a few online shops and brands have been doing this for awhile. One big benefit of Foffa’s app is that it doesn’t use Adobe’s proprietary Flash technology like all the others, meaning you can theoretically build your bike using an iPad or other drool-worthy Apple device. Unlike some of the flashier *ahem* online bike builder tools, Mix Your Fix is a lot more paired-down and simple, which we like, and you don’t have to go through loads of different pages to get what you want, like Mission Bicycle’s tool, even though we still love their work.

We’ve written a starter page to help you add your city to the Alleycats directory. When you send us your links, we’ll work together to get your city’s very own Alleycats directory up-and-running. It’s pretty easy, so jump on it now and help get your scene a bit more connected and lower the barrier-to-entry.
We’ve re-coded all our directories to be coded up in hCard microformats. Everything looks and works exactly the same, except if you’re using a browser or device which supports microformats, you’ll get an option for each listing to save it to your contacts or download it as a vCard. It’s all very geeky— we won’t lie. But we’re doing everything we can to make our directories as usable as possible…
If you’re not seeing any difference, great! But if you want to take advantage of these microformats, you can see a list of browsers, software and devices which will let you use them at microformats.org/wiki/hcard-implementations
That being said— how ’bout that new directory design refresh, huh? ;-)
